Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. Heart disease is an all-inclusive term for the disease that develops when the arteries of the heart cannot deliver enough oxygen-rich blood to the heart, leading to events like heart attack. Critical factors for heart disease are unhealthy diets, diabetes, obesity, and excessive alcohol use.

According to the British Heart Foundation, studies show that CBD may have a proactive effect on the heart due to its anti-inflammatory properties. Research also indicates that CBD may help maintain healthy cardiovascular function and might prevent heart disease in a number of ways.

When the linings in the artery walls are injured, they build up plaque that can cause the arteries to narrow. This is called atherosclerosis.

According to The Essential Guide to CBD, “Exposure to tiny-chronic doses of THC has been shown to slow the progression of atherosclerosis.” CBD and THC are both vasodilators, meaning they widen the blood vessels. In a 2017 study, researchers gave a group of 600 men 600 mg of CBD vs a placebo. That one dose reduced the participants’ resting systolic blood pressure by six mmHg.

In addition, high cholesterol levels—LDL, aka “bad cholesterol,” increase the risk of developing heart disease. LDL can build up in the linings of the blood vessels, causing a potential heart attack or stroke.

Www.verywellhealth.com states, “CBD has been shown to increase HDL levels—aka “good cholesterol” and lower LDL levels after four weeks of CBD supplementation. Check out our full spectrum CBD oil here.
