There are three main types of cannabidiol (CBD) forms: full spectrum, broad-spectrum, and CBD isolate.

What’s the difference between these forms? Are some forms better for certain conditions? This article will cover the differences and potential benefits of these CBD forms and how to choose the best form for you.

Full-spectrum CBD vs. THC-free

The main difference between full-spectrum CBD, broad-spectrum CBD, and CBD isolate is the number of naturally occurring cannabis plant compounds (cannabinoids) they contain. In order to further understand the differences between these three CBD forms, we divide them into two categories: Full-spectrum and THC-free.

Full-Spectrum CBD

CBD is classified as full-spectrum CBD when it contains several other cannabis plant compounds, including THC. Full-spectrum CBD contains up to 0.3% THC, terpenes, and other cannabinoids.

Since full-spectrum CBD oil contains all of these other compounds from the hemp plant, it is critical to only consume CBD oil from a company with exceptional hemp. As for C4 Healthlabs, we source the hemp for our CBD oils from an organic, Tennessee-grown, certified cultivator of Italian fiber hemp, naturally rich in CBD. The hemp for our product is organic—completely free of insecticides, herbicides, and micro-biocides.

THC-Free CBD

Both CBD isolate and broad-spectrum CBD fall under the category of THC-free CBD.

When CBD contains several other cannabis plant compounds but contains no THC, it is classified as broad-spectrum CBD. Broad-spectrum CBD is considered THC-free, although it may sometimes contain non-detectable levels of THC.

We do not carry broad spectrum here at C4 Healthlabs. Our THC-free option is CBD isolate. CBD isolate is pure cannabidiol, as it contains no THC, terpenes, or any other cannabinoids from the plant.

Is full-spectrum CBD better than THC-free CBD?

So, which is the better choice: full-spectrum or THC-free? The answer depends entirely on your personal needs and preferences.

If you are concerned about drug testing, then you will obviously want to avoid full-spectrum CBD as the THC levels may yield a positive result on a drug screen. THC-free CBD is the best option if you want to stay completely “drug-free.”

Here at C4 Healthlabs, we spent over a year searching and analyzing different options to develop a high-quality THC-free CBD that would address the requests of civil servants who were searching for a viable alternative to full-spectrum CBD oils. Our search and analysis led to the development of our American farmed and produced THC-free CBD option. By sourcing the highest-quality CBD isolate for our formulations, C4 Healthlabs is always able to ensure the quality, purity, and consistency of our THC-Free CBD oils.

As for the differences in health benefits, both full-spectrum and THC-Free CBD have comparable reports. Essentially, both can do the job. However, there is a concept known as the entourage effect, which theorizes that fatty acids, terpenes, and other plant-based compounds can help increase the health benefits of CBD.

So if you are looking to maximize the potential benefits of CBD, and you aren’t worried about drug testing—full-spectrum CBD oil may be your best choice.

Which CBD is better for anxiety?

It is no secret that people typically consume CBD for the many reported health benefits—most commonly to target a chronic mental or physical health symptom. Scientific research for CBD is still ongoing. There is a massive legal gray area surrounding the benefit claims that can be made for CBD products.

However, some compelling scientific evidence has been released that supports the use of CBD for specific conditions, including chronic pain, anxiety, depression, and more.

Anxiety disorders are some of the most common reasons people turn to CBD for relief. Generally speaking, the best CBD form for anxiety would be full-spectrum CBD oil because of the entourage effect of the cannabinoids. However, people who are prone to anxiety disorders can sometimes also be highly sensitive to THC, even in small amounts. Nevertheless, not everyone with anxiety disorders experiences THC-induced anxiety.

A variety of individual factors determines a person’s THC sensitivity level. These factors include genetics, gender, personality type, mental health history, and individual tolerance. If you find that you become more anxious after consuming full-spectrum CBD, a THC-free option may be better suited for your needs.

Which CBD is better for pain?

A large percentage of CBD users consume CBD for issues related to chronic physical pain. The most current research consistently suggests that full-spectrum CBD is potentially more effective than THC-free CBD in providing pain relief.

Chronic pain is often associated with chronic inflammation in the body. The evidence suggests that the entourage effect of the different cannabinoids can prevent or lower inflammation that may be causing chronic pain.

If you need to stay away from THC, take note that you can still receive the potential benefits for chronic pain from THC-free CBD. Cannabinol has been shown to possibly increase myeloid-derived suppressor cells. These are the cells that help your body suppress inflammation.

You can also supplement with a high-quality THC-free CBD lotion. CBD lotion interacts with pain receptors in the area it is applied, potentially alleviating painful joints and sore muscles.

Summary: What is the Difference between THC-Free & Full Spectrum CBD

In summary, CBD is divided into two categories: Full spectrum and THC-free. The main difference between these forms is the number of naturally occurring cannabis plant compounds (cannabinoids) they contain.

CBD is classified as full-spectrum CBD when it contains several other cannabis plant compounds, including up to 0.3% THC. Broad-spectrum CBD has several other cannabinoids, but no THC. And CBD isolate is pure cannabinol and contains no other cannabinoids.

Deciding between full-spectrum CBD and THC-free depends entirely on your personal needs and preferences. Avoid full spectrum CBD if you are worried about drug screening.

Suppose you want to maximize the potential benefits of CBD. In that case, full-spectrum may be your best option because of the entourage effect, which theorizes that fatty acids, terpenes, and other plant-based compounds can help increase the health benefits of CBD. The “entourage effect” is the reason people often report full spectrum CBD as the best for anxiety. However, this may not be a good option for you if you have a history of high THC sensitivity. The most current research available consistently suggests that full-spectrum CBD is potentially more effective than THC-free CBD in providing pain relief due to the entourage effect of the cannabinoids on inflammation.
